  1. Thanks to Bill, the commissaires, volunteers, Police Service and sponsors for another great event. And perfect weather this year too! See you in category D.5 next year…

  2. Hi Caper Architects!
Thank you so much to Bill Goldston, Ambrose Delaney, and their crew of merry volunteers who hosted this fantastic event! The reviews from out team are glowing and we’re hoping to bring more Bicycles Plus Cycling Club teammates next year to experience the Caper!

    Cheers,
    Cynthia Fry,
    Bicycles Plus Cycling Club

  3. You’re welcome Andre.

  4. We’re glad you had a great time. We appreciate the comments. Next year’s race will be even better.

  5. Great race! I will be back next year and I’d love to see the same layout.

Just a suggestion, not sure how others may feel about it but I would like to see anyone that doesnt show up with a TT bike to recieve a bonus to their time. No idea how you would figure out what that bonus would be. I know some people might be scared off becuase they don’t have a TT machine and feel they are at a big disadvantge right from the start, and I know I would much rather give those that don’t have a TT rig a bonus then to disallow TT bikes to make things fair. I think on a 8km course something in the 30-40 seconds would be appropriate. (Disclosure, I ride a TT rig)

I can only imagine the work that goes into organizing an event like this, another suggestion I have would be to add a time penalty (maybe 10 seconds) to anyone that does not pre-register, might help with getting those last minuters (Myself included) to get our act together (I won the A with only 18 seconds in hand, they do matter!).

    Cheers guys!
    Thanks
    Jeff

  6. Great suggestion Jeff. I’m not sure of the legality of either of those suggestions, but there might be a rule for it. I don’t agree with banning TT bikes, at this point. I think the biggest issue is how to carpool 4 or 5 guys with 8 or 10 bikes, which is the main reason TT bikes are banned from some big races. Anyway, we always consider all of the suggestions, and comments when getting ready for the next year.

Your biggest penalty was built into the fact that you had about 1 hour less time to rest before the crit. That was my original plan. Pre-registration makes everything go so much smoother. You overcame that. Congratulations on a great race. Make sure you get some media time there. Your local media should have a copy of our press release and the results. Don’t let them ignore your accomplishments.

Thanks for coming to Cape Breton!

    Bill

  7. Firstly, I’d like to say that this was my favourite event this year. The volunteers and organizers did an amazing job. The most impressive part was the communication: registration deadlines were clear, route maps were available well before the race, prize list and TT start times were sent out, results were promptly posted after each event.

A few suggestions I do have is to offer are:

Driving directions to the courses. Google maps is wonderful for some people, but it’s always nice to have a good description of the driving directions.

You should not be allowed to change categories after registering for the event. There was a switch between B and C I believe, after the time trial. The rider was in fourth position in B, then dropped to C before the crit and fell into first position in C (he went on to win the event). This should be against BNS policy and not just an individual event. (BIAS: I, along with everyone in C was knocked back a position by this switch. I did confer with other riders to make sure I wasn’t the only one that felt this way).

Thanks again for the amazing event. Looking forward to it next year.

    Cheers,
    Jeremy Stewart

  8. Thanks for the compliments Jeremy. Always appreciated. We will update our notes and provide better directions next year.

You are partially correct on the rider who switched categories. Actually, he switched categories before the time trial, and since he had not raced in B this year, I did allow it. That is the policy of BNS. We had actually changed his number before the time trial to make sure there was no confusion. I didn’t see any point in changing his start time at the time trial, since it would have no impact one way or another. Unfortunately, when I was compiling the results, I had neglected to make the change on my computer and his results accidentally appeared in the B category time trial results. I was in a bit of a tough spot when I noticed it, because I had already given him permission to switch before the race.

I would not allow any other riders to switch categories once registration closed at 12:45, except for the Under 15 girl, as previously noted, which was actually after the race when I knew there would be no impact.

I will try to put some controls on the spreadsheets to keep this from happening again. I’m only offering this as information, not an excuse. I was not careful enough to make the proper adjustments at the time I allowed the change.

Thanks for coming Jeremy, and I appreciate the fact that you are planning to come again in spite of my error.

  9. Had a great time.
Only suggestion is that the primes in the crit be totally random. Just ring the bell and announce it during the race.

  10. Thanks for coming Zach. We had a great time hosting the event. I’ll throw your suggestion in the pot of things to think about for next year. The primes were a last minute addition, and I just came up with the idea of having it on the 5’s and 10’s off the top of my head. We’ll get a horn or something next year and work it out a little earlier.

Thanks for the great pics Brianne. I’ll add them to the photos section.

    See you next year.
