Do It Yourself

A lot of people want to repair their own bikes for a variety of reasons. Save money, satisfaction, pride, timeliness.

At FremeWork Cycle & Fitness, we support this 100%. The biggest hurdle is the cost of tools that you might only use once or twice a year or less. There is a solution to that. We have teamed up with several communities to help make “Do it Yourself” a possibility. Right now, the Cape Breton Regional Library has tool kits and repair manuals available to borrow. This kit has most of the gear you will need to adjust or replace parts on your bike. We can sell you all the parts you need, and you can use the library tool kit to replace cranksets, bottom brackets, freewheels, cassettes, tires, and pedals, adjust your gears and brakes. Pretty much anything you want to do. Check it out now, literally. CBRL Bike Tool Kit

Coming soon…Outdoor Repair Stations. Both CBRM and Victoria County have purchased Part Tool Trail Head Work Stations that will be available soon. These stations allow you to ride or walk up 24 hours a day. Hang your bike from the sturdy support and use a good selection of attached tools to repair and adjust your bike, “On the fly!” Watch for these to be installed in Downtown Baddeck and Downtown Glace Bay as well as other locations in CBRM and Victoria County.

PLEASE: Know your limitations. We support self repair, but we want it done carefully and safely. Read the manuals. For the most trustworthy advice on the internet, the number one source is ParkTool.com (choose “Fix It”) or go to the manufacturer of the part you are replacing. When you reach your limit, you can always bring it to us and avoid the grease, and mess, and frustration.

To help out along the way, we will be offering repair clinics at various times and locations throughout the year. Let us know if you want to learn something special, and we will try to organize a clinic to help everyone out.

Boy Scout Invasion

We had a group of boy scouts come to ride the Cabot Trail. Here’s what one of their leaders had to say…

I’m Greg H., one of the adults who was with Kevin F. when we rented bikes from you July 1st-8th.  We had inadvertently left a seat bag in the rental car that went back a day early, so I swapped you with my personal one.

We’ve located that bag, and I’ll be returning the contents to you in the mail shortly.  It also included one of the bike computers- so I wanted to let you know that we found it and you’ll get it back in hopefully just a few days.

I want to thank you again for the great gear- we found your bikes to be bullet-proof, the trip computers helpful, and everything was in great shape!  What a beautiful part of the world to bike in, we’ll never forget this trip.
Editor’s note- Scouts are so honest.

Framework Racing Wins Provincials

Jeff 2     Framework Racing’s Jeff Muise proved he was the fastest cyclist in the province this weekend when he won Bicycle Nova Scotia’s Provincial Championships held in Riverport  Sunday.
Muise, a 31-year-old resident of Yarmouth, has been racing for Cape Breton’s Framework Racing Team  since 2012. The elite athlete who in his day job is manager of information technology at the Coastal Financial Credit Union in Yarmouth races in Bicycle Nova Scotia’s Class A division which is considered the toughest, fastest and longest distance.
On Sunday, Muise worked hard to get to the podium with team captain Ambrose Delaney of Sydney and Chad Lennon, formerly of Sydney who now lives in Halifax, completing 140 km distance in a time of 3 hours, 20 minutes.
In the last few metres of the race, Muise was in a pack of seven men who broke away from the main group for a sprint to the finish. Muise narrowly edged the group with his wheel crossing the line first, just fractions of a second ahead of  second and third place finishers Jamie Lamb of Cyclesmith and Jakub Koska  of Bike Clinic Cannondale Team, respectfully.
The average speed of Muise over the 140 km bicycle road race distance was 39 km per hour.
“We’re really proud of the team’s effort at this tough race with Muise striking like lightning once again,” team president Bill Goldston said. “We understand there was a massive high speed bicycle crash in Class C that involved about 20 riders, caused  from a rain-filled pothole that racers couldn’t avoid.  Our hearts and sympathy go out to those injured in the pile up.  It was unfortunate and a reminder to government officials that pot holes really do hurt. We understand one rider was thrown off his bike, landing almost into the ocean.”
Jeff     June is shaping up to be an excellent month for Framework Racing’s Muise. He won the Brooklyn, NS road race on June 1 with a time of 2:40:10 just a second ahead of Dustin MacBurnie of Cyclesmith and minutes ahead of Lorenzo Caterini of Craftsmen/Hub Cycle.
On June 8, Framework Racing’s Muise  took top honors at the New Brunswick Tour de Force Saint-Paul Road Race and Time Trial. He narrowly defeated   Andrew Buzzell and Julien Roussel of team Fitworks of New Brunswick. More than 50 participated in that race.
